THE ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS IN THE PROFESSIONAL ADAPTATION OF THE STUDENTS IN THE TECHNICAL HIGHER EDUCATION
Abstract
Nowadays, due to the fact that the industry has evolved considerably the engineer has to perform measurement and control operations, both in the product design stage and in the consumption process. In order to be able to accomplish these activities easily and in the shortest possible time, an engineer must possess a range of cognitive, psychomotor, sensory and physical skills. Through the physical education and sports lesson in the technical higher education, it is possible to have the positive transfer of the student stimulation and development strategies, which intends to valorize the aptitudinal psychomotor, sensory and cognitive potential in order to achieve performance in engineering. The aim of the paper is to highlight and analyze the importance of the psychomotor skills of the students in the technical higher education, specializing in mechanical engineering, that are strongly involved in the future professional adaptation and which have a very important role in optimizing the performance capacity in the engineering profession. As the psychomotor education needs to be adapted to the student's aspirations and needs, to the complex challenges that he/she will face in the professional activity, we considered it appropriate to use the sociological method in the form of an enquiry to investigate the problematics addressed. Through the question-answer technique, we surveyed a sample of 120 students specializing in mechanical engineering, from the University Politehnica of Bucharest. The assessment made through the questionnaire gave us the opportunity to analyze the position of the subjective factors involved in the training process and clarified a number of aspects related to the contribution of physical education and sports to the acquisition of the future profession, to the level of knowledge about physical culture and sports, and, also, to important issues related to the need to orientate the psychomotor training in relation to the future professional activity.
