COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE CONCENTRATION DEGREE OF INSURANCE, TELECOM AND FOOD RETAIL SECTORS. ROMANIA VERSUS EU.
Abstract
In this paper we aim to analyze the degree of concentration of some of the key sectors in Romania, taking into account not only the picture at national level, but also the structure of those markets compared to the Member States of the European Union. Based on the available information, certain data analysis is made taking into account both the market shares of the enterprises in the sector and the number of active competitors, turnover or output, while the economic approach might not be homogeneous from one sector to another, but tailored to availability of the data for each sector. In addition, the paper aims at observing the convergence towards common results, in order to underline the conclusions, since the sources of data are diversified. Three of the main sectors of the Romanian economy have been scrutinized, namely: general insurance, telecom and retail food, and the degree of concentration on these markets were calculated in terms of the most important market concentration indicators.
