PERSONNEL REMOTE MANAGEMENT – ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Abstract
Management is the oldest area of human activity, which exists as long as people live and as long as they work in communities. In modern society, a new type of management has emerged - remote or distance management of employees. There can be several reasons for spread of remote management: the highest possible costs for an employee permanently present in an office, such as renting an office space and the associated costs of maintaining working places, or the type of activity of the organization that implies the main part of employees in remote employment outside the office, as well as the presence of a strongly branched and regional network. And finally, the manager may simply be temporarily absent from the company - be on a business trip, be on vacation, because even on vacation, many executives tend to be aware of what is happening in the company and manage remotely. Worldwide, remote management of the employees in companies is more common in recent years. However, many managers still do not dare to hire remote employees, since it is believed that it is more difficult to control and motivate them. Remote management methods have something in common with traditional management methods, but they are not the same. Managing employees at a distance is a new tendency, and the methods are unique and progressive. The study is based on the assumption that remote management has more advantages than disadvantages, and it is effective. The aim of the study is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of remote management. The study focuses on the following issues: what are the advantages and disadvantages and remote management? Is remote management effective? Does the performance of workers in remote management change? Mixed research methods have been used in this study, including three surveys. Study results show that the main disadvantage of remote personnel management - for effective management of remote teamВ’s managers should have a wider set of skills and competencies than in conventional management, since there are complex control mechanisms and specifics of management. In addition, remote personnel management requires additional efforts from the manager in order to establish personal relations with the employee. This is due to the fact that in this case there is no personal contact among people. The advantage of remote management is that modern systematization and automation of the management process are the necessary minimum, and successful development requires continuous improvement of both management processes in the organization and the increase and development of managerial competencies. Remote management is effective with properly developed communication and well-coordinated interaction of managers and remote employees. This study identified the main problems of remote management: the lack of communication rules, the transition from the usual methods of interaction to new ones.
