THE ROLE OF DRAWING IN THE RESILIENT DESIGN PROCESSES
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the theme of the design representation of the resilient city through the critical reinterpretation of planning and design experiences of urban space, developed nationally and internationally, which are significant in terms of both mitigation and adaptation. In particular, we focused our attention on the themes of drawing and representation, looking for answers to questions such as: What is the role of drawing in the descriptive narrative of resilience? What are the tools of design for resilience? What are the possible developments in the field of design and representation research? Is there a resilient design? After focusing on the relationship between nature and art in traditional and contemporary representation, resilient designs and projects will also be analysed in the examples shown in the XVII Venice Architecture Biennale, particularly in the Italian Pavilion, Resilient Communities by Alessandro Melis. The methodological approach highlights the multi-layer vision of the design that characterises the idea of future cities through forms of a repetitive nature, from conceptual schematic maps to complex utopian representations of future scenarios
