Abstract

Events of recent years (an economic crisis, local confrontations in Syria, Ukraine, other regions of the world) have consolidated the interdisciplinary status of a problem of migration; they have also put this problem on the highest level of discussion, allowing to consider migratory processes as menacing to the safety and state sovereignty [1], [2], or, on the contrary, promoting economic well-being of a host country [3]. Efforts of psychologists to study migratory processes are directed at the analysis of character of relations between migrants and dominant ethnic groups [4], [5]. In our paper we have examined how experience of business interaction of migrant workers with representatives of dominant ethnic group at work influences transformation of their social needs, and systems of attitudes to other people (a complex of attitudes of various modalities, such as acceptance, trust, goodwill, hostility, manipulative attitude). In our research “others” are not definite group of people, but “generalized others” [6]. The aim of the current research was to investigate dynamics of expressiveness of social needs and attitudes to other people of Russian migrant workers, who are residing in Azerbaijan, depending on their experience of business interaction with representatives of titular nation – Azerbaijanians. The following assumptions have acted as hypotheses: 1) expressiveness of social needs and modalities of attitudes to other people which is shown by Azerbaijanians and Russian migrant workers residing in Baku can differ; 2) expressiveness of social needs and modalities of attitudes to other people which is shown by Russian migrant workers residing in Azerbaijan will differ depending on their experience of business interaction with representatives of titular nation. Research techniques: 1) «The Interpersonal Relationship Questionnaire» by W. Schutz, adapted by A.A. Rukavishnikov; 2) the package of techniques diagnosing intensity and modality of attitudes to other people, which was adapted by Ju. A. Mendzheritskaya. Methods of data analysis: Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis Tests. Empirical object of research comprised 90 middle managers of two largest Azerbaijan distribution companies, who were men aged from 20 till 40. The sample has been divided into two subgroups: 1) ethnic Russians, citizens of Russia working in Azerbaijan (Baku) in accordance with labour contracts from 1 month till 1 year (50 people) and from 3 till 5 years (20 people); 2) Russian-speaking citizens of Azerbaijan who were born in Azerbaijan in cross marriages, living in Baku (20 people). The received results allow us to draw a conclusion that the system of relations to other people at Russians who have resided in Azerbaijan more than 3 years become similar to the system of relations to other people at representatives of the dominant ethnic group.
