Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to determine the extent of occurrence and frequency of partner violence in students' romantic relationships, including the issue of whether there are differences in the forms of violence (psychological, physical, sexual), as well as willingness to seek and to provide help in case of violence. Methods: The study involved 104 female and male students (average age was 22.6) enrolled at the University of Mostar. The following measurement instruments were used in the research: Dating Violence Perpetration scale, Dating Violence Victimisation scale, and Willingness to Seek and Provide Help scale. Results: The results have shown that dating violence is widespread among University students , that young men perpetrate all forms of violence, and that a larger number of women have experienced physical and sexual violence. Willingness to seek help in the event of dating violence is weak, while in contrast to that finding, young men and women have expressed great willingness to provide help to friends who are victimised by dating violence in a relationship. Conclusion: The results of this research represent a contribution to previous research, and in particular to research among University students in Bosnia and Herzegovina since such research is scarce in the scientific literature. The results also represent a practical contribution to raising the level of awareness of dating violence among the youth and provide certain insights and guidelines on support for the youth, particularly in terms of establishing preventive programs in youth work.
