THE SUSTENABILITY OF TRADITION - A VERNACULAR MODEL OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
Abstract
Sustainability is a response to a crisis solution, an attempt to balance the relationship between man and the environment, or acting through man. But without that connection, direct and natural contact with the environment, man has to act outside. Hence, an assurance of sustainable principles that hated them, man would have the chance to assume for the beginning, so that he could then assimilate them. Architecture should not be limited or focused only to the object of architecture, but to the whole process of building a community as an ultimate goal of architectural processus. The traditional architecture is the carrier of the social, aesthetic and symbolic values of rural communities, representing the living proof of the cultural traits, the spirit and the permanence on these realms. In addition to these important features, offers diversified patterns, typologies and morphology, developed and timed over time, whose spatial modeling and specific v and formal attributes, perfectly suited to the site, can become inspirational in the design and production of new housing and rural developments . The ecological way in which they are made, the natural materials used and the traditional techniques of putting into operation are only a few elements which, taken and used with discernment, can contribute to the sustainable development of rural localities. The paper identifies these architectural features specific to the region and proposes, from this perspective, a set of recommendations on sustainable ways of spatial development of settlements and site-adapted, coherent and environmentally-friendly building. The analysis focuses equally on the many and complex methodological aspects such an approach involves in creating practical operational tools for the design process as well.
