DRAMA ACTIVITIES IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Abstract
The article highlights effective ways of using drama activities in an ELT classroom. Why are those activities useful? Who are they intended for? What goals are to be set and results obtained? What hidden obstacles prevent a performance from being a success? How to overcome the barrier of incomprehension? What kind of plays to choose? How to facilitate the task of staging them? A number of other issues relating to the role of drama activities in ELT are addressed. The approach offered is based on the author's concept of the ELT Theatre and aimed at awakening student's language and cultural awareness, creativity and interest in studies. Some comments on the author's cross-cultural plays serve to illustrate her standpoint.
