INTRODUCTION TO THE RESEARCH PROJECT “SMART CITY: A HOLISTIC APPROACH”
Abstract
The article presents the current state of the research project which aims to integrate activities of members of the Faculty of Organization and Management, Silesian University of Technology, Zabrze, Poland, that are focused on the various problems associated with the idea of “Smart City”. The variety of research areas related to multi-screen research conducted by project participants has been treated as an important added value of the project in question. In the first part of the paper, the list of the areas considered in the framework of the project is presented and briefly described. In the second part of the project, some results of the current state of research in selected areas are presented. Special attention is paid to multidisciplinary problems, such as recognition and assessment of needs from social, economic and technical point of view, sustainability or economic/financial, technical, social and environmental conditions of implementing the Smart City solutions into practice. The third part of the paper introduces the general model of integrating the particular research areas in order to obtain a holistic view on problems of smart cities.
