PERMITTED VERSUS PUBLIC PRACTICES: AWARENESS THROUGH SMALL SCALE TEMPORARY INTERVENTIONS
Abstract
A small initiative \#Istanbulstarted public workshops that aims to raise public awareness on the urban environment, the use of space and the current debates on public spaces. By catalyzing temporary and participatory spatial interventions as a method on defining/redefining urban environment. The aim is to support the development of a new form of critical platform by raising awareness on site through the reactions or actions of the society. With the support of public participation and detailed analysis, the voluntary initiative \#Istanbul's mission is having a learning by practice experiment for an upgraded spatial quality for the society. In order to achieve such target, small scale and temporary actions, activations or spatial interventions are being injected for a site specific problem and being tested temporarily with the use of community. These interventions are planning to highlight a public opinion as a participatory planning action for a better environment, as well as a public awareness for physical and/or social problemsthat could be addressed or solved through minimal communal injections.
