EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY, DEFINITE VARIABLES OF A SUCCESSFUL ACADEMIC CAREER

Abstract

The present study has as aim the identification of the level of emotional intelligence and personality traits at the future teachers as well as establishing the connections and differences between these variables depending on the level of education of the participants. The participants at the study are exclusively female, future teachers, high school and faculty graduatesВ’ practitioners and non-practitioners, having ages between 18 and 35 years old, M = 21.89, AS = 4.89. Group 1 is made of 74 high school graduates and group 2 is made up of 51 faculty graduates, totalling 125 participants. As concerns testing the established hypotheses, there were used 2 psychometric instruments and such Friedman Emotional Maturity Questionnaire. The questionnaire measures the degree of emotional maturity in terms of balance or emotional imbalance and Eysenck Personality Inventory, EPI (The personality Inventory Eysenck) (Eysenck & Eysenck, 1964). The collected data were organized and analysed by means of the program IBM SPSS.22. The future teachers, faculty graduates present a higher level of emotional than the high school graduates and the personality traits that are congruent with the profession of teacher (extraversion and emotional stability) are stronger represented by faculty graduates than high school graduates.
