THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING THROUGH THE STUDY OF ANGLO-SAXON CULTURE AND LITERATURE
Abstract
The paper focuses on the significance and need to develop critical thinking in the educational process on the basis of the documents and recommendations of the Slovak government and of the Ministry of Education as well as on practical experience. The contribution assumes that the repetition of facts and information does not mean their comprehension. Information is processed only if a learner is able to explain, connect and use the acquired knowledge. The paper presents several methods of critical thinking applied to the art, literature and culture of the Anglo-Saxon period (5th – 11th century).
