Abstract

With more than 3500 plant species with therapeutic properties, the flora of Romania holds the key for an environment opened to new scientific studies [1] that can lead to innovations in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic sector. The benefits of Romania's geographical position in the growth of many plants species used in medicine, pharmacy and cosmetology, will also be discussed. Some of the top plant species like sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), romanian paeonia (Paeonia Peregrina), yellow poppy (Papaver alpinum), edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum) and thyme (Thymus serpillum) caught the attention of people who chase quick profits, and arenВ’t concerned about the impact of their actions towards the envionment. United States, for example, has shown a major interest in preserving both flora and fauna long before 1970, as Krieger M. H. is showing in his work: In the past few years, a movement concerned with the preservation and careful use of the natural environment in this country has grown substantially. This ecology movement, as I shall call it, is beginning to have genuine power in governmental decision-making and is becoming a link between certain government agencies - and the publics to which they are responsible. The ecology movement should be distinguished from related movements concerned with the conservation and wise use of natural resources [2]. This paper is aimed to pinpoint the correlation between legislative regulations of Romania on the protection of plant species with therapeutic potential in danger of extinction and marketing, a tool for creating awareness.
