BANK CREDIT TO ENTERPRISES AND THE POLISH ECONOMY IN THE YEARS 2000 - 2014
Abstract
The aim of this article is to assess the impact of economic conditions on the level of bank loans to enterprises in Poland in the years 2000 – 2014. To achieve this objective were used the following research methods: a review of the scientific literature, statistical research methods and methods of graphical presentation of economic phenomena. The results of the analysis show that in the analyzed period, was noticeable a significant dependence between the level of bank loans to enterprises and economic conditions in the Polish economy. It should also be noted that in the audited period, the Polish economy has been affected by the economic downturn in 2001-2002 and the global financial crisis in the years 2007 - 2009 which had an impact on economic conditions and thereby on the level of bank loans to enterprises. As a result, in the recent financial crisis there was a large decrease in the amount of loans granted by banks, which was conducive to curbing consumer and investment demand and thus negatively affected the whole economy. The article also raised the issue of the impact of the monetary authorities on bank loan supply in the economy and the impact of the fiscal authorities on the economic conditions for enterprises in Poland in the considered period. The originality of this study lies in noticing and highlighting the significance of the level of bank loans to enterprises in the economy and their sensitivity to fluctuations in the financial markets.
