LANGUAGE VARIETY IN MODERN GLOBAL SOCIETY: LANGUAGE OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AS A FACTOR OF SOCIO - CULTURAL INTEGRATION

Abstract

The article considers language variety or multilingualism of the modern globalized world space in the terms of local and global components of the inter cultural communication as vectors aiming to opposite directions from the point of view of different and often clashing scientific and historical approaches. The use of historical and comparative analysis allows the author to understand that most scholars claim that such turbulence occurs because the peoples as the carriers of different national cultures and languages as culture elements interact actively performing their unique social role. That is why the author treats the study of multilingualism as closely connected with the research of problems of nations, national identity and national states. The functioning of local cultural values in the terms of globalization and collision of national identity and socio- cultural integration vector are analyzed. The author signifies the importance of the language as the main instrument of inter cultural communication. The hypothesis about the necessity of some uniting sociocultural component for different nations and ethnic groups is put forward. The author analyses historical, political and cultural reasons of strengthening the role of the English language in globalization process and information society formation stressing that English as the conductor of English culture has taken the dominating position in the world environment and has given access to scientific and technological achievements denoting new notions, objects and phenomena in all spheres of life. The conclusion about influence of the English language on new inter cultural communication models formation and new approaches to teaching foreign languages is made; in the terms of the language variety the importance of careful language planning and effective and reasonable national language policies in the context of global cultural interaction is stated.
