SACRED SPACE: THE SPECIFICITY OF CREATION AND BORDERS

Abstract

This article focuses on the sacred space, on specifics of deploymentand manifestation in the profane world. About hierotopy as a method that allows to study the processes of creation of sacred space and the consciousness of people participating in the process of sacralization. Particular attention is paid to the hierotopic practice of sacralization as the method of transforming profane space into a sacred space. It is accentuatedthe difference between hierophany and hierotopy as two ways of creating a sacred space.Sacred space unfolds within the individual and is experienced. The objects of the profane world can be the keys to its discovery. It is accentuatedthe difference between hierophany and hierotopy as two ways of creating a sacred space. The boundaries of this topic go beyond the limits of a person's religious experience to the domain of his generation, to the point where the line between sacred and profane is not clearly marked yet, and the "hierotopic" picture of the world is only emerging. It is about the historically concrete activity of people to create a sacred space with the help of various means - images, architecture, rituals, etc. The hierotopic approach allows, therefore, to describe specific practices of sacralization.
