Abstract

The role of architecture as a tool in creating social relations in urban environment is increasing from a certain date. The idea of creating architecture that is the answer to certain, specific needs of small, local communities has recently become one of the most important determinants of contemporary design thought. The paper presents model solutions that were implemented, inter alia, during the design workshops for architecture students in cooperation with the Arka Foundation in Krzywa near Nowogród Bobrza?ski in 2015-2017. By implementing through architecture specific needs related to counteracting homelessness, creating spatial opportunities for developing alternative, socially active areas affects the quality of space not only in Krzywa itself, but also in further regions of the Lubuskie Voivodeship. Actions undertaken in this field indicate the direction of non-governmental cooperation as one of action models supporting bottom-up initiatives, changing the quality of space for better.
