FUN AND RELAX – ATTRIBUTES OF THE VITAL CONTEMPORARY URBAN PUBLIC SPACES
Abstract
High-quality, full-featured urban public spaces are characterized by wide complex of attributes. Places for fun and relax, offering emotions of joy, happiness and a good time for inhabitants and visitors, can raise the quality of urban environment. With their functional and emotional potential, the places for relax and entertainment can contribute to make the urban public spaces of contemporary cities more attractive, more lively and more people-friendly. We examine the potential of fun and relax spaces and design elements to bring vitality, attraction and diversity into the urban public space. We analyze the possibilities and principles of the successful integration and implementation of fun and relax elements into the contemporary „city interior“. Attractiveness, satisfaction and joy of people are the basic quantities moving the cities in the direction of further progress and prosperity. With regard to this, components of fun and relax in the contemporary city deserve a high degree of attention and their implementation strategies require creative approaches of architects, designers, local authorities and inhabitants themselves.
