DENTAL CARE PROVIDED BY DENTAL STUDENTS AND THE PATIENTSВ’ SATISFACTION

Abstract

Background Faculty of Dental Medicine is teaching facility that is the favorite option for comprehensive dental treatments due to their reputation, affordability and professional competence of the clinicians. The dental care delivered to the patients is primarily by the students under guidance of experienced faculty clinical educational staff. The need to teach students about providing good quality dental treatment to the patients is a major concern for clinical training faculty. Because the success of an oral health service can be assessed by the degree of satisfaction of its patients, the objective of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction following dental treatment provided by final year dental students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, “Ovidius” University of Constanta. Methods The required information was collected from patients using a self-answered questionnaire and the level of patient satisfaction was evaluated by five possible answers: strongly agree, agree, don’t know, disagree and strongly disagree. Results: From the all patients who received dental treatment at the student clinics in the last year 68 participated in this study. Study population aged above 18 years, males and females, the gender distribution showed 47.05 percent (32) and 53.94 percent (36) males. The patient’s satisfaction score was highly satisfying. No statistically significant difference was found for the patient satisfaction score in relation to the age, gender, nationality and educational level. Conclusion: The patients treated by the dental students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, “Ovidius” University of Constanta were very satisfied with their treatment. The information gathered from the present study is helpful for developing future for patient care.
