THE PEACEBUILDING PROCESS IN COLOMBIA IN 2014-2015
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the analysis of an appearing progress in establishing peace between the government of Colombia and an insurgent group called FARC. The recent events allowed one of the most long-lasting active conflicts to arrive much closer to its' end that the whole international community has been waiting for. With the participation of both Latin American neighbors and countries from outside of the region, Colombian officials and freedom fighters could finally shake hands, seize fire and start developing an approach that would allow them to put behind their contradictions. Analyzing the procedure of the conflict settlement holds the key to understanding the nature of such conflicts in general; and also would help create a fuller notion of how to resolve them with proper effectiveness. The article also sorts out the potential 3-rd parties that take direct or indirect participation in the process of resolution of the conflict; and defines their roles and aims. The primary target is to show the significance of a potential strong peace in Colombia for the rest of the Latin American region, especially its' influence on the role of the country in the process of regional integration; and to outline the possibilities of the Accord to finally smoothen the disagreements between socialists and capitalists in Latin America allowing all the countries of the region to collaborate in a more effective manner.
