EVALUATION OF HEALTH AND HYGIENE SUBINDEX OF TRAVEL AND TOURISM COMPETITIVENESS INDEX WITHIN V4 COUNTRIES
Abstract
Since 2007 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index provides the opportunity to compare countries within the travel and tourism competitiveness. This index evaluates a number of areas related to travel and tourism, which may affect its competitiveness. One of the essential factors for travel and tourism competitiveness is health and hygiene. Within health and hygiene pillar, sub-pillars such as Physician density, Access to improved sanitation, Access to improved drinking water, Hospital beds, HIV prevalence, and Malaria incidence, are evaluated. In this paper, we summarize the development of the values of the partial pillars of the Health and Hygiene pillar within the Visegrad group (V4) countries, in the period from 2007 to 2017. The contribution also describes a change in the methods of measuring the Health and Hygiene pillar, as the overall Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index has so far been reported seven times. An international comparison of the main components of the Health and Hygiene pillar within V4 counties provides valuable information connected with accumulation of investment in potential destinations suitable for the development and promotion of tourism.
