The goal of the paper is the analysis of the role of investment funds in the financial markets. The paper starts with the brief outline of the history of money and financial markets. Further, the determinants of the stability in the financial markets are analysed. The author of the paper argues that investment funds are of great importance in terms of the allocation of global capital surplus. Moreover, investment funds may play a role in triggering the financial crisis, so they should be subject to international supervision.
