MEASURING AND EVALUATING BODY COMPOSITION OF STUDENTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY POLITEHNICA OF BUCHAREST
Abstract
An optimal health, viewed ontogenetically, is a desideratum that combines several essential factors such as: the physical and mental activity determined by the genetic inheritance and own ideals, correct nutrition, in relation to the physical and mental effort, and rest in accordance with the other factors. All the listed factors apply to the human body as a whole. This paper aims to measure and evaluate the body composition of the students from the University Politehnica of Bucharest by means of the bioelectric impedance, to obtain data reflecting their state of health and to create a database at national level for this age category- 19-21 years old). For this research, we used the Tanita RD-953 device, which employs the bioelectric impedance analysis technology, by which we measured the body weight, the total body fat, the muscle mass, the body mass index, the visceral fat, the bone mass, the metabolic age and the total body water. The research methods we used were the following: the bibliographic study method, the bioelectric impedance analysis, the graphic method, the statistical and mathematical method. The research was conducted between 25.09.2017-27.10.2017 in the Sports Hall of the Sports Complex from the University Politehnica of Bucharest. We selected randomly, for the research, 290 subjects (174 men and 116 women), students of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, aged 19 and 21. With regard to the results of the measurement of the studentsВ’ body fat we can observe that only 12.94% of the female subjects and 25.29% of the male subjects fall into the average group.
