THE „WORLD OF LIGHTS" IN THE RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR – VISUAL AND EMOTIONAL ASPECTS AND POTENTIALITIES

Abstract

The world of humans is a profoundly visual one. Since the time the limits of darkness in the night were overcome by artificial lighting, the perception has moved significantly not only in the physiological sense but in terms of seeing and understanding architecture and art objects as well. Lamps and light sources have become one of the crucial factors in the process of generating visual perception, perception of objects, in designing spatial compositions, art sceneries and the overall emotional atmosphere of space. Providing artificial lighting as a necessary alternative to the natural light is immediately connected to designing artefacts in the form of light fixtures. This article presents the results of a research on creative potentials and other aspects influencing lighting design for residential interiors. The participants of the research activities were young authors – future interior designers, PhD. students and employees of the Faculty of Architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The research was conducted both practically by prototyping and 3D-modelling of the designs and theoretically in the form of surveying preferential values concerning the creative process and the choices it incorporates including the final selection of a design.
