IMPACT OF DESIGN ELEMENTS IN THE VICINITY OF ROADWAYS ON THE OCCURRENCE OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
Abstract
Traffic accidents and their elimination are a very current topic in today's century. Besides the human factor, design elements in the area of the roads are also affected by this problem. The article deals with the analysis of design elements in the vicinity of the roads and their impact on the occurrence of traffic accidents. Design elements, especially elements of the transport infrastructure - materials and surface, trees and vegetation, outdoor lighting, street furniture, objects and facilities for services, objects to facilitate movement and access, outdoor advertising are analyzed. Elements are described in general, professionally evaluated, and four specific areas of interest with increased incidence of traffic accidents and reduced safety are selected. Subsequently, these selected areas are processed and more specified in the following text. The outcome of the study will be the final recommendations and assumptions for reducing the risks of traffic accidents and enhancing traffic safety on roads.
