SOME PHYSIOLOGICAL MARKERS THE COMFORT OF LIFE IN THE ARCTIC REGION

Abstract

The issues of comfortable human existence in the Arctic region arise in the context of growing interest in the Arctic, active development of its resources, with geopolitical problems at once. The external visual environment is essential, which is lacking in color and detail. The vast expanses of snow, the absence of visible elements, and the colorless palette (from white to blue) form a monotonous, uncomfortable field of view. The mechanisms of visual perception do not work correctly and can lead to the development of stressful states in these conditions. The duration of work shifts can be a cause of chronic stress. We studied the features of eye-tracking and the autonomic nervous system's response in the visual perception of homogeneous and comfortable images. Images according to the classification of V. A. Filin, photos of shift complexes, a constant urban settlement in the Arctic region, created a visual environment of different comfort (homogeneous and comfortable). Activation of the sympathetic nervous system was registered when viewing an uncomfortable visual space. Significant changes in the static and dynamic parameters of eye-tracking were detected, confirming the development of a stress reaction in the body.
