THE 2016 ELECTIONS: A GATEWAY TO A NEW CRISIS IN MACEDONIA?
Abstract
During the last couple of months the Republic of Macedonia has been amidst a deep political crisis ever since the leader of the largest opposition party started publishing wiretapped conversations of the highest ranking authorities with the core of the countries government including those from the prime-minister, leaders of the political parties, key ministers and key representatives from within the secret services of the country. The affairs that has to do with many millions of dollars, abuse of power. Corruption, control over the judiciary by the government and many other issues finally resulted in new elections that were suppose to bring a new dawn for politics and the future of the country in general. But, as the elections results got published it became quite obvious, that the results achieved by the political parties might not be sufficient enough to create a stabile government and bring about the much needed changes in the political system of the country. The newly created situation of almost equal results among the two largest parties, the inability of the wining party to form a new government and its public pressure to stop the second largest party to create a government as well as the latest public pronunciations by the ex prime-minister might be a gateway to a new, perhaps even worse crisis in the country, a threat that threatens to go beyond the political.
