RITUALS AND SPELLS DEDICATED TO THE GODDESS AIYYSYT

Abstract

Ceremonies and algys devoted to the goddess Aiyysyt are considered in the article. The Yakut goddess-mother Aiyysyt in the functions and appointments corresponds to goddesses: Turkic Umay - Umay-ene (kumadin.), Ymay-ene (kachinsk.), Mau-ene (teleut.) and Old Indian Wuma, and also Old Iranian Arta (avestiysky - Asha). In Yakut mythology Akhtar Aiyysyt, either Nalygyr Aiyysyt, or Nelbey Aiyysyt is the goddess caring for reproduction of people. She together with Ieyekhsit asks Yuryung Aar Toyon to a soul (iye-kut) of a child and introduces it through a cinciput of men. In works of ceremonial poetry it is said that Aiyysyt or Ieyekhsit brings soul of a boy child on the earth, having turned it into a knife or an arrow, and a girlВ’s soul - in scissors. White shamans appealed to Aiyysyt about that she has presented a childВ’s soul to the person patronized by them. Aiyysyt appears at childbirth and helps safe permission from a burden. She has the power to give or not to give a child or rather without her petition before Yuryung Aar Toyon a woman canВ’t become a pregnant woman. The goddess Aiyysyt leaves the mother house for the third day after delivery. Her farewell celebrates very solemnly and extremely originally and at the same time exclusively by women only.
