CONTEMPORARY E-HEALTH APPROACHES - ONLINE REHABILITATION THERAPIES

Abstract

The COVID 19 pandemic gave us a major lesson in terms of readiness to answer critical situations, especially in the health sector. Regulations and restrictions in this period decreased dramatically the access to classic medical services and leaded to a sudden shift for online medical services. Digitization of the complex decision-making process of diagnosis and treatment is probably the most challenging paradigm shift in medicine; it requires radical changes in legislation, infrastructure, skills, abilities and competencies. The problem is not new, e-Health is on EU agenda for several years but present pandemic transformed it from an ”option” into a ”must”. Rehabilitation is a major adjunct in promoting optimal health among the population. In the context of COVID19 pandemics the negative impact on population regarding the lack of services was high. Under new WHO policy, telemedicine is a key service in strengthening the response of health systems to the COVID-19 pandemic, so many rehabilitation clinics, oriented to this type of service, but found that their employees lack the theoretical and practical knowledge to provide the service. In this context we developed a transnational ERASMUS+ project in the framework of Partnerships for Digital Education Readiness, entitled ”Development of digital skills for online rehabilitation therapies/e-KINE”. e- KINE project aim to offer an interdisciplinary on-line collaborative platform, to support kinesitherapists/physiotherapists in acquisition of skills for delivery of online medical services. This refers to a new healthcare training model in vocational education and training that encompasses the benefits of innovative practice in a digital area with the overcoming of skills mismatches. The project should complement efforts to help the medical sector recover from the crisis in terms of innovative online solutions, thereby contributing to the EU’s strategic priorities
