ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF MANAGERIAL ACTIONS IN THE CASE OF A TRADITIONAL ROMANIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Abstract

With a history spanning over more than 200 years, the traditional ensemble of three instruments known in Romania under the name of Transylvanian Trio gathers instruments of different sizes and shapes, encompassing a specific repertoire, unique in the Romanian area. In order to collect this specific repertoire, for its preservation and promotion, a Transylvanian Trio Festival takes place in Cluj County every year, bringing together the local ensembles of this type. The present paper analyzes the audienceВ’s perception of the festival, arising from the need to have a set of information on the assessment of events, ways of improvement, important issues, and the efficiency of organizing and preserving this unique type of event. The method used implied the unfolding of a two-wave survey conducted on two samples of 100 respondents, at the end of the 2016 and 2017 editions. The first wave of the evaluation study had the purpose of drawing up a set of conclusions and recommendations aimed at improving the organization, promotion and public communication, that is, in order to raise the quality of management. The assessment of the 2017 edition provided an opportunity to measure the impact of these recommendations as well as the possibility to depict the changes that have taken place. According to the data gathered in 2017 and analysed in comparison to the one of 2016, the impact of the recommended and applied managerial actions following the assessment of the previous edition is undeniable and significant in most respects. The structure of the audience has changed, the methods of promoting the event have become more appropriate for this new kind of audience, and the satisfaction associated with the festival is greater, although the artistic level has declined.
