ABILITY OF SPATIAL MODELLING OF A HUMAN FIGURE BY CHILDREN
Abstract
Artistic representation of a human figure, as a subject of interests of many researchers, became the subject of investigation regarding both development of childrens drawings as well as studies on intelligence and personality. Researchers often focused on drawings from childhood period, mainly due to diversity of used forms and domination of their subjective nature. Psychologists used various techniques, tools and analysed the subject matter closest to children, including a human figure. The aim of the conducted studies was to find an answer to the question regarding the importance of early teaching of solid figures formation (beginning from a sphere, through cylinders and other forms) for the childrens ability to model spatial human figures from plasticine. Experimental and control group that was examined in the study consisted of 3-4-year-old children. Collected research material, which was constituted by the plasticine forms modelled by children according to a defined topic concerning human figure, was analysed and compared with results achieved in the initial study and allowed to draw some conclusions. Use of the natural experiment allowed to define the relation between the classes based on subject experience generated by the knowledge of technique of modelling basic spatial figures and the skills to create spatial representations by children.
