THEORETICAL AND LEGAL FOUNDATIONS OF ANTI-JEWISH LEGISLATION ON THE TERRITORY OF BOHEMIA AND SLOVAKIA

Abstract

The first half of the 20th century was in many aspects very complicated period. This paper reveals the reasons behind the existence of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes with focus on the fundamental rise of anti-Jewish moods in the Czech part of the Czechoslovak state occurred in the post-Munich period. The open anti-Jewish behavior of a part of the Czech political spectrum publicly or in print was not avoided, in addition, this trend was gradually showed also in some governmental parties. Therefore, it was not accidental that in the end of 1938, the government circles started to focus to solving of so called the Jewish question particularly in relation to settled Jewish refugees from Germany. This paper tries to show that the anti-Jewish moods were present in the Czechoslovak society before the rise of Nazi regime in Germany. We tries to formulate that even before the occupation of Czech part of Czechoslovakia and before creation of Slovak state just after the Munich agreement from 1938 they were crystallized in some legal acts.
