Abstract

The paper presents the situation of investments in the hotel and restaurant industry, from the eight development regions of Romania, during 2008-2016. The data used in the study was taken from several sources of statistical data of various organisms in the field, and then they were sorted and hierarchized for further processing. The purpose of the processing was to highlight the level of investment in the hotel and restaurant industry in each development region of Romania and to compare the turnover of the sector and the number of tourists. The obtained results showed a decrease of the net investments in all the eight development regions of Romania, especially during 2008-2014. If we refer to the structure of investments by the number of workers in the hospitality and restaurants industry, we have the highest annual values in enterprises with a number of 10-49 employees, followed by those with up to 9 employees and those with over 50 employees. Surprisingly, even if the investments were decreasing, the turnover did not show the same trend, but even increased in the last years of the studied period, as did the values referring to the number of tourists, whether Romanians or foreigners. The resulting conclusion is the inefficiency, at least in part, of these investments and a multitude of other factors that have influenced these values.
