Abstract

Intrapersonal communication is classed as being the exchange of information with oneself through a process of internal vocalisation and reflective thinking. It is an important element of the human communication process, one which triggers the starting position for communication information chain as В‘it functions as a motive which causes movement resulting in the movement of an informative impulseВ’ [10, 83]. As a result of movement, changes its meaning as it participates in the act of change in terms of symbolic meanings generated by experience [3, 40]. Internal communication is an inner dialogue that works on different levels and takes place within a single person for the purpose of clarifying ideas or analysing a situation, or to reflect upon or appreciate something. Aim of this study was to determine the respondentВ’s attitudes towards the internal exchange of information and to find out whether social media also serves to participate in the internal communication process. The author conducted a survey among young adults, asking them about their attitude to intrapersonal communication and their opinion on the importance of this form of communication in the complex process of human interpersonal communication for the purposes of the research. The survey established the frequency of the use of intrapersonal communication, times, topics, and content, and the importance of an inner dialogue with the use of social media (Facebook and Twitter). The survey proved that intrapersonal communication is a very intensely-used form of communication among young adults which introduces the next step - communication with the outside world.
