Abstract

Quality of life in today's world has a positive connotation which, in society, becomes a precondition for successful aging. Indivisibility of quality of life and successful aging is conditioned by the integration of the causal factors and participants directly involved in the lives of people located in homes for the elderly and infirm. According to analytical indicators, population of Croatia is characterized by very old age, the most unfavorable type of age group, and Croatia is in the group of ten European countries with the largest share of the old people (65 y/o and more) in the total population [1]. Therefore, the discourse of this paper is presented through a research carried out in may 2018 on a suitable sample of 150 users of homes for the elderly and infirm in the Osijek Baranja County in the Republic of Croatia. When comparing with previous researches and theoretical and practical knowledge, the aim of this study was to examine the quality of life of the users of the homes for elderly and infirm and the study showed that more dignified and life of better quality can contribute to the psychological state of the user. This study covers self assessment of the quality of life of the users of the homes for elderly and infirm as well as possible distractors that affect more dignified life in decentralized homes.
