ACTUAL AND POTENTIAL DEMAND FOR SELECTED GOODS AND SERVICES IN SLOVAKIA
Abstract
In Slovakia people traditionally devote a lot of time to perform unpaid work in their homes. The paper focused onto examination whether all activities which could be done through the unpaid work of households members are doing themselves, or whether households are replacing at least part of these activities by paid work of the third party, i.e. whether there is a demand for such kind of goods and services. The sample size of primary research done by our team was 1,142 Slovak households. Results show that household respondents are demanding mainly vehicle maintenance services, services connected with reconstruction and repairs of dwelling, food delivery and cartage and preparing fuels for heating. On the other hand activities such as cleaning and ironing people in Slovakia are making mainly by themselves. For selected group of activities we have also identified demand factors.
