IMPLEMENTATION OF GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS INTO THE ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT OF A LARGE ADMINISTRATIVE REGION
Abstract
At present an economic management of any administrative region (territory with fixed legal boundaries) is impossible without modern technologies of spatial analysis. Administrators of power structures use every opportunity to ensure that the management of the region is based on the automated processing of spatial data and particularly on remote sensing data. First of all, the possibilities of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are used such as data collection and systematization, automated analysis, compilation of visual models. At the first stage it is the best tool for data accumulation and for solution of administrative tasks. At the next stage, automated management transfers to work with geoportals: federal, regional, municipal ones, etc. This step is already aimed to accelerate the process of attraction of investors, as well as to promote information about the region for the general public (specialists, tourists, etc.). We have taken a successful attempt of practical cooperation with one of the major administrative regions В— the Krasnodar Region of the Russian Federation. The purpose of cooperation is to perform the implementation of the fully functional geographical information system in the practice of economic management of the region, as well as to discover of steps needed to bring the region to a new information level through getting access to GIS-data via Internet, with operation through the desktop version of the information system.
