Abstract

Place making is a concept meaning space improvement aimed at creating places that let you think of public spaces as "another place of your own". In recent years, it grew mainly within the United States, and the research accumulation is progressing. In this research, the study's target site was set up in an elementary school district in Fukuoka, Japan. At the northern end of the complex estate site, there is a parking lot site which is not currently used, and we considered it to be a community farm. In the survey method, we learned from 5 steps of place making realization, and conducted interview surveys and workshops. So far, the first to the third steps have been carried out. In this paper, we report the results of the implementation of the place making workshop, the second and third steps, and show the results. As a result of the workshops based on the viewpoint of place making, the following results were obtained. First of all, we were able to draw out the degree of knowledge of users, along with frank questions and opinions on the farm, and was able to find out the ability to contribute. Desires for financing were also revealed. We decided the type of vegetables and flowers to make as well. The events that we wanted to carry out throughout the year also became clear. Based on these results, we were able to create an image map of the farm. Also, it was acknowledged that community farm users are both users and administrators, and the recognition was shared among workshop participants. This is a great achievement for this community farm. Rather than pursuing only my own interests, the significance of everyone's involvement was emphasized in order to improve the interests of the other farmers and the whole farm. As a user of the farm, at the same time as a participant in the farm project and as a manager of the farm, they began to be aware of the community farm as "another place of your own" while having knowledge and interest in the area. It is thought that the results of this research can be utilized to promote community revitalization and exploitation of unused areas by using the place making method which is not familiar to our country.
