Abstract

The article deals with the potential of original feature films and television series to develop lingvopragmatic competence of foreign students of economic specialties in the field of business communication in conditions of a) real language environment of the Russian university (traditional learning), b) combined real and virtual language environments (blended learning). The named audiovisual sources, which usually performed the function of illustrative material in teaching Russian as a foreign language, are proposed as an independent teaching means stimulating students’ cognitive activity and intensifying the educational process. To test this hypothesis the following research methods are used: questionnaire, test, statistical parametrization, quantitative and qualitative analysis of empirical data. The study showed that the original movies and television films can be an attractive didactic tool due to their authenticity, visuality, integrativeness, influentialness and situational character. These features are activated by selecting audiovisual material according to accurate criteria: richness of linguistic and speech means and its normativity; typical portrayed communicative situations; content-linguistic intelligibility of the material and its social meaning; correspondence between the topic and students’ professional and communicative needs. It is established that thanks to the development of information and communication technologies, modern students have well-developed audiovisual culture and therefore welcome the use of film / television materials to enhance the level of their foreign-language communicative competence. In such teaching conditions the results of the research show students’ mastering the teaching material on the level of more than 83%. It is noted that blended learning rate is 7% higher than that of the traditional learning, which proves this form of teaching organization is very promising. In all, the methodological expediency of systemic work with authentic movies / television films as an effective means of teaching foreign-language business communication is summarized.
