PROJECT MANAGERS QUALITY OF WORKING LIFE, JOB RELATED STRESS AND COPING IN IT COMPANIES IN RIGA
Abstract
All projects in different sectors are unique, but the information technology industry is a prosperous and growing sector of all developing countries, which is mainly based on projects [1]. The purpose of the work is to investigate the quality of working life of IT project managers in Riga, causes of job related stress and influencing factor and to find out what strategies for stress management are used and also, develop proposals for major IT companies to improve the quality of life of IT project managers and overcome stress. Authors use two questionnaires prepared by the authors of the work and the scale of stress management strategies [2] as well as analysis and interpretation of the obtained data (including mathematical statistics). The authors of the thesis points out that in general it can be said that the quality of working life, job related stress and coping of IT project managers are related. A lot of quality of working life factors have been rated as essential, but the most important ones are: management attitude, job satisfaction, organizational communication, pay, internal climate and flexible working hours. Also, almost all IT project managers point to project management as a stressfull profession, and indicate that project managers in IT sector should be able to cope with more complex projects as project managers in other industries. Factors such as unclear requirements from project customers, limited time resources and limited human resources are the main drivers of IT project managers' stress. To overcome the stress, most IT project managers use active stress management strategies that focus on search of support for stress relief, finding out the causes of stress and solving the problem.
