ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF ROAD PROJECT I/72 ZBOJSKA – BREZNO
Abstract
The assessment of the road infrastructure projects are based on life cycle costs, which consist of capital and social costs. Social costs are monetized negative impacts of users, environment and society. At present, a lot of tools exist for economic efficiency assessment of road projects. However, there are some differences in distribution and valuation of individual social costs components. This distribution depends on used assessment tools. The valuation of economic efficiency of road section project I/72 ZbojskГЎ - Brezno was processed in the software of Highway Development and Management (HDM-4). This road section is an arterial road of great influence for the development in region of BanskГЎ Bystrica. The poor road condition is reflected on the economic and tourist activities in this region. At present, this road section is not suitable from the point of view safety and traffic flow. The objective of the proposed road project is to eliminate mentioned shortcomings and to reduce social costs. Social benefits of this road project are: reduction of travel time, reduction of vehicle operating costs and increase of safety. The economic evaluation of proposed road project was based on Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA).
