Abstract

Russia’s ingress into global teaching environment calls for innovative methods in syllabi design. Many of them tend to fuse the knowledge acquired in the process of specific studies. Thus, one of the new challenges is an interdisciplinary approach to higher school learning in general and to ELT in particular. An innovative method of foreign language competence formation in the field of professional communication, worked out for teaching ESP students is discussed in the article. This method produced by us presupposes a concept analysis of foreign language scientific texts and is based on a principal psychologically directed scheme of adaptive developmental teaching and a methodology of text concept analysis and modeling both originated by Professor S. Kharzeeva. The said technique enables the students to build up mental cognitive patterns, and that helps them to form up the skills of deriving the necessary information from the text, store it and transfer from one situation into another. The results of the experiment taken place in the South-West State University are given. The application of this approach to stimulate the process of learning of a foreign language allows carrying out concept analysis of the text, and therefore, contributes to the formation of general and special knowledge, their classification and the development of metacognitive strategies for information processing which is important for the integration of interdisciplinary training at the university and the formation of linguistic professional competence of future specialists.
