Abstract

Architecture works with signs and symbols, the key to reading it always depending on the cultural environment and historical time. Today, as in the past, the architectural forms of Orthodox churches are governed by tradition. In the construction of a church, the expressive variations of contemporary constructive systems are often ignored, being considered as not conforming to tradition. What is tradition? Where does tradition begin and where does it end? What is and what is not traditional? These are just a few of the questions to which answers are still being sought in the field of theology as well as in the field of philosophy and architecture.
