THE EFFORTS OF ROMANIAN NONGOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS OF TURNING ONLINE SURFERS INTO CAUSE SUPPORTERS

Abstract

During the last decade, it became apparent for Romanian organisations either for profit or nonprofit the potential represented by Internet, but the organisations‘ presence in the virtual world has to be done by following certain rules. The end-result being in attracting an ever increasing number of Internet surfers that are interested in the products and services promoted online. Lately, also representatives of Romanian nongovernmental organizations are becoming aware of the need to ensure their presence on the Net and on different social networks in order to communicate with online surfers and to attract them towards their causes. The study was performed on a number of 34 Romanian nonprofit organisations that offer practicum field placement to Social Work students from School of Sociology and Social Work – University of Bucharest. The research aim was to identify if these organisations have a consistent presence of the Net in order to ensure a greater respond from their sympathizers when they are asking for support in the form of volunteering, donations of products and services, and sponsorships, etc. By using the content analysis method, there were studied websites` design and information content and the posts of these organizations on the social network – Facebook - regarding the projects implemented, possibilities of getting involved and other type of activities.
