ASSESSMENT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECOLOGICAL COMPETENCE IN FUTURE EDUCATORS DURING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS

Abstract

The article examines ecological competence as an integrated ability that combines knowledge about living nature, practical skills, a value-based attitude towards the environment, and is aimed at solving environmental problems and promoting sustainable development ideas in society. The methodological basis of the study is grounded in a combination of several approaches: a systemic approach, which provided a holistic analysis of the interrelationships between the components of the educational process and project activities; a competence-based approach, which emphasizes the development of students' knowledge, skills, and values for their professional activities; and an activity-based approach, which highlights the praxeological role of educational projects in the formation of ecological competence. Methods of pedagogical experiment, testing, surveying, observation, and mathematical-statistical analysis were used to evaluate the obtained results. An author's definition of 'students' ecological competence' is proposed, and criteria for its evaluation (cognitive, value-motivational, activity-practical, technological) were developed and tested during a pedagogical experiment in higher education institutions of the Kirovohrad region in 2024. Based on the results of the experiment, recommendations were formulated to improve the training of future educators, including the implementation of project-based learning, the use of computer technologies, and the creation of a competence assessment system. The study results are significant for the theory and practice of pedagogy and higher education, promoting the integration of ecological principles into professional education.
