MODIFICATION OF HEMOENCEPHALOGRAPHIC NEUROFEEDBACK TRAINING BY USING AN EYE TRACKING SYSTEM

Abstract

Contemporary brain activity monitoring is called Hemoencephalography (HEG), which shows the quantitative changes in brain activity in a different way. Hemoencephalographic neurofeedback training is a modern alternative to physiologically affect the condition in children with ASD, ADHD and other deviations in mental development. Hemoencephalographic neurofeedback can also be used as an alternative supportive therapy in other conditions with frontal lobe pathology alone or in combination with established drug therapy. A survey conducted in 2014-2016 showed a clear improvement in the general state of speech, socialization, sensory and behavior in children with autism spectrum disorders by using HEG neurofeedback training. The implementation of an eye tracking system for the concerned movements is an original modification of the HEG neurofeedback training protocol in order to more accurately monitor and control the attention of the trained child. The eye tracking and gaze control involves several brain regions, including frontal lobe, parietal lobe and occipital lobe. This research is an attempt to reveal connection between brain prefrontal cortex, upper and lower visual pathways, dorsal and ventral attention system and their common activation during HEG neurofeedback training in children with ASD, ADHD and intellectual disability and use of an eye tracking system to improve the effects of trainings.
