PROFESSIONAL GROUP OF PROFESSORSВ’ TRANSFORMATIONS WITHIN UNIVERSITY CULTURE

Abstract

Some basic characteristics of university culture are considered from the viewpoint of socio-cultural, structural and resource approaches, some formal and informal features of a group of professors as an elite professional group in the professional entity of academic staff are showed, for they are the guardians of traditions and they transfer the university culture. The deformation ratio of formal and informal features of that professional group is reported. The emphasis is laid on the importance of the traditions and values preserving issues within the university education culture. The personnel transformation and the changes in qualified, professional resources of the group in question are presented according to the materials of Russian nationwide sociological research. The some data are given on the effectiveness of the doctoral institution in Russia in general and in Sverdlovsk region in particular to be the basic professorsВ’ personnel source. The reasons for the group reduction during the higher education modernization are given and provided. The reasons for the dispersion of the academic teaching staff are also given. Some conclusions are drawn about the positive changes in the cultural resources of professors, which allow us to dwell upon the university culture maintenance and development.
