Abstract

The topicality of the subject matter is conditioned by the modern tendencies towards globalization and the active development of the new information technologies that exert considerable influence on the development of modern towns and the decrease in the significance of the national economy. The article presents the analysis of the work of foreign authors which emphasize the leading and even dominant role of towns and urban creativeness in the life of humankind. The role of the extension and development of the creative economy and its important constituent – creative industries, clusters and spaces is designated. The authors examined and analyzed the modern tendencies towards the transformation of territories and urban identity, the new understanding of the competitiveness of metropolises, social hyper mobility of the urban population. The article raises the questions of the competitiveness of modern towns and the role of culture in the understanding of the essence of urban sprawl, their cultural and economic diversity. The issues of the prioritized development of the creative identification of towns and regions are firmly grounded by the authors in the careful analysis of the issues, and the ways of the solution of the problem of the segmentation of urban communities through the convergence of the local communities and the dialog of cultures are proposed.
