AIR TRANSPORT DEMAND IN THE COUNTRIES OF VISEGRAD GROUP
Abstract
Air transport is one of the youngest transport industries, yet in a few decades of its existence, it has built a monopoly position in the transport of people, mail and some types of cargo for very long, long and medium distances. Air transport is also the main transport mode in the international transportation. There are even some destinations that are served only by air transport. For transport operators such as transport planners, airlines, airports and aircraft manufacturers, knowledge of air transport demand is a key determinant of success. The aim of this paper is to describe the development of air transport demand in the countries of Visegrad Group. The Visegrad Group is an alliance of four central European countries, namely the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. This alliance was created primarily for the purpose of achieving European integration. The air transport demand was examined at main civil airports with international transport in each country where data was possible to obtain. Transport performances of airports were gradually examined on the number of passengers, the amount of handled cargo and number of aircraft movements at each of these airports.
