SOCIAL CAPITAL AND SOCIAL SUPPORT OF RIGA STARTUPS
Abstract
It is widely recognized that Social Capital and Social Support are phenomena influencing start-up creation, development and business success or failure. Trying to develop startup means to experience high levels uncertainty and it is essential to understand the possibilities to reduce the levels of uncertainty in the way the startup developer will perceive that. The research task is to find the forms of social capital and sources of social support the startup owners perceive the best. The aim of research is to investigate the social capital and social support perceived by Riga startups to elaborate on conditions that should be taken into consideration within designing and managing support activities. Paper contains two research question and one hypothesis: - Question 1: what sort of social capital does Riga startups perceive? - Question 2: what are the sources of social support perceived by Riga startups? - Hypothesis: statistically significant correlations between perceived sources of social support and dimensions of perceived social capital exist. Research shows that Riga startups perceive high levels of social support from family, friends and significant others. Riga startups evaluate highly perceived social capital in all three dimensions – structural, cognitive and relational.
